The greatest stories of innovation always come from moving beyond our own logic

In business design, we spend countless hours on a single task: planning. We build blueprints and roadmaps to find innovative solutions for our clients.

However, the greatest stories of innovation always come from moving beyond our own logic. They come when we accept that plans are not meant to be followed rigidly, but to inspire us to reach beyond them.

In other words, they serve to give us a faint idea of where we want to go, so we can then allow things to unfold according to God’s plans—which, beyond being perfect, will always be radically better than our own.

Consider Isla Columpios, a natural wonder in Yucatan that exists only because a hurricane shattered the region’s development plans in 1988.

Throughout the 1980s, the people of Chuburná Puerto made their living from salt mining. However, the Creator, through the force of one of the strongest hurricanes in history, changed the course of their story by breaking the barrier that separated the sea from the salt flats.

The result wasn’t ruin, but a unique natural marvel where nature and humanity now coexist. Fishing and tourism thrive, empowering locals with a more profitable business and offering a paradise for all to enjoy—created by one of God’s many plans that will always be superior to ours.

And just as an industry can be born from this, so too can countless business and government ideas emerge when we allow the unimaginable to happen.
